The Costa Blanca is now recognised as a truly world class golfing destination, alongside its existing reputation for relaxing and varied holidays throughout the year.

There are numerous high quality golf courses in the area, which has a beautiful climate, both in winter and summer, with an average of over 300 sunny days per year, and average winter temperatures of 16 or 17°C.

For example, in the area about 9 kilometres south of Torrevieja - the Orihuela Costa - there are 3 superb golf courses, each with it's own distinct character, all within 2 km of each other, where national and international competitions are held - Club de Golf Villamartin, Club de Golf Las Ramblas de Orihuela and Real Club de Golf Campoamor.

And just north west of Torrevieja is the new La Finca Algorfa.

Real Club de Golf Campoamor is another 18 hole course in the Villamartin area of the Orihuela Costa. Here you will find an 18 hole, par 72 course at 5830 metres situated in beautiful rolling countryside with a small lake, providing interest for high and low handicappers alike.

Location of course
Situated north of San Miguel on the CV95 towards Los Montesinos roundabout. Turn left and then next right - follow signs for Algorfa - follow the road along until you see the entrance to the golf course on the left, opposite a new urbanisation.

This is a tough 19 hole course. The 19th is an extra hole, par 3, which is very picturesque and is played when one of the main 18 holes is closed for repairs, etc. However, if there is a match or competition and all is square after 18 holes, it may be possible (with permission) to play the 19th as a conclusion hole.
There is plenty of water which comes into play on the 1st, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes. So please make sure you have enough balls with you (golf balls that is!).
The remaining 9 holes are by no means easy either. The 3rd for instance (par 3), has a narrow green with perfectly spaced greenhill bunkers which are either side of the green. This has a handicap of 7.
The 7th is a long, 434 metre uphill par 4. Slight dogleg right and the green is large and square, but it has an L-shaped bunker the width and length of the green. This has a handicap of 3.
Then there's the 14th, 396 metre par 4 uphill to a large round basin green. It has a large bunker in front of the green, ready to catch your pitch, but it also has water on the left of the fairway, so don't pull your drive. This has a handicap of 4.
The 15th is no pushover either although it's only 366 metre. But if you miss-hit your drive, there is a large rock formation in a large bunker which cuts across the fairway, and the green is small, raised and tilted, so a soft pitch is required.
The final three holes, the 16th, 17th and 18th are especially interesting. The 16th (par 3) has a two tier green, surrounded by a deep ditch with water to the right. On the 17th (par 4), if the wind is with you, try to drive the Green, across the big lake, or play safe and there's still danger to the right and left of the fairway.
Finally the 18th (par 5). You have a choice of either playing short of the pitch, or flying with your driver. However, the green has three tiers. All the final three holes could make or break you.
